RAVELIN
THE RICHMAN MOUNTAIN RETREAT

Ravelin is an excellent example of how a challenging sloped site can provide perched mountainside roosts that not merely observe but rather situate you within the firmament of a view.

 

The main interior living space is open to and extended by the surrounding rooftop deck that cantilevers away from the hillside home allowing you to soar into the ether of the mountain views beyond.

 

Both sharp and smart, Ravelin is designed with material considerations that are both fire resistant and architecturally bespoke. To that end, Ravelin's exterior features a split face masonry construction, flat cold rolled steel sheathing with natural patina, exposed steel beams, and a metal roof. Wood floors and ceilings comfort those inside next to the custom block and steel fireplace the serves warmth separately to three different spaces - the living room, the main suite, and the deck.

 

The main living space is open to the mountain view on three sides. On its fourth side is a chef's kitchen with sub-kitchen makes entertaining a paramount attribute to the social spaces of this retreat. The main bedroom suite features sweeping views as well as a generous bathroom whose highlight is a large bathtub with a panoramic view of the mountain forest. The third floor loft is a private studio with 270º views perfect for artists, writers, business people, and yogis. The first level spaces include to private guest suites, a kitchenette, a separate bathroom, covered patio space, and ample storage.

 

Lastly, the remote location of this site requires some measure of self sustainability. A solar panel system and battery bank provide power. A well must be installed for water access and therefore a geothermal heating and cooling system is a likely option that the client is considering now.  

 

Unique, smart, and looking toward the future, Ravelin is slated to break ground in the summer of 2025.
